The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road Chapter Announced

Earlier this morning, Zenimax Online Studios announced the latest chapter update for the 10-year running MMORPG with The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road. Featuring a new zone, storyline, a brand-new Scribing system, rewards, and more, The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road takes players to West Weald, a region situated on the borders of Cyrodiil, the Gold Coast, and Valenwood. Those Elder Scrolls fans who played 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion might be familiar with this part of Tamriel, including its capital city of Skingrad.

Players will start 2024’s adventures with the Scions of Ithelia dungeon DLC pack in March, which introduces two new 4-player dungeons, Oathsworn Pit and Bedlam Veil. At the heart of Gold Road lies the enigmatic Ithelia, a Daedric Prince shrouded in mystery. Forgotten even by her own followers, her sudden return throws Tamriel into disarray. Players must unravel the secrets of her unexpected emergence and confront the chaos she brings in her wake. While it continues a narrative that began in 2023, Gold Road tells its own stand-alone tale and does not require having played the Necrom Chapter.

These new dungeons coming with Scions of Ithelia allow you to explore a training ground for the followers of Malacath and a secret vault within the Oblivion demi-realm of Maelstrom. Both dungeons help set the stage for the upcoming Chapter in their own way, but their storylines can be enjoyed individually. These two new dungeons are set to challenge you and your team with Normal and Veteran difficulties (including Hard Mode) and each feature their own Achievements and rewards (including unique collectibles and item sets).

Whispers from West Weald: Prepare to venture into a brand-new zone – the once-imperial region of West Weald. Now threatened by the encroaching Valenwood jungle and plagued by Daedric taint, this overgrown land holds countless mysteries and challenges for intrepid adventurers. Explore ancient ruins, navigate tangled jungles, and face down fearsome Daedric hordes in this uncharted wilderness.

Scribing the Fate of Tamriel: Gold Road introduces a brand-new system to the game called Scribing. Players have been long requesting an ability similar to spellcrafting and this is bang on the money. This unique magic system allows players to literally etch spells onto magical glyphs, imbuing them with potent effects and customising their abilities in unprecedented ways. Imagine unleashing firestorms with enchanted scrolls, summoning spectral allies through inscribed stones, or weaving defensive wards with enchanted parchments. Scribing promises to redefine combat and character builds, offering next-level personalisation we haven’t had in ESO in a long time. I can’t wait to get hands-on with this new system. You can read more in-depth about Scribing here.

Beyond the Gold Road: The Chapter doesn’t stop with a forgotten Daedric Prince and revolutionary magic. Players can also expect:

  • Mirrormoor Incursion world events, stand fast with your fellow players against waves of Daedric invaders before they can get a foothold in West Weald and spread their chaos.
  • A challenging new 12-player Trial, Lucent Citadel, located within the otherworldly wastes of Fargrave, where you’ll face the enigmatic Reanimating Crux and test your mettle against nightmarish foes.
  • A host of new gear, rewards, and cosmetic items, including Daedric-themed collectibles (including a mount, pet, and Skill Styles), achievements, Tales of Tribute deck, and more.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road arrives for PC/Mac on June 3, 2024, and for Xbox and PlayStation consoles on June 18, 2024. Pre-purchase Gold Road now to receive unique bonus rewards at launch and immediate access to the Welkyndstone Ruins Wolf mount and Welkyndstone Ruins Pup pet (available before March 18).
