Chris InglisTHQ Nordic has announced a new addition to the SpellForce series in the form of SpellForce: Conquest of Eo. If you haven’t heard of the SpellForce series before, they are games that meld the RTS and RPG genres like I had not seen before. They feature several game modes including campaign mode (expositional), skirmish mode (real time strategy based), and free play (similar to campaign mode but without an overarching plot). You have unit movement and exploration from an isometric viewpoint like an action RPG and then fight battles and build bases like a RTS game.
The games take place on a planet called Eo, a high fantasy world ruled by near-immortal mages (collectively known as The Circle) and inhabited by various sapient races, such as humans, dwarves, dark elves, orcs and trolls. The mages used servants called rune warriors, summoned from magical monuments, to keep peace. SpellForce 3 was released on PC back in 2017 and launched on consoles earlier this month. Now, SpellForce: Conquest of Eo has been announced and looks to add elements of 4x strategy, turn-based strategy and tactical hex grid combat to the series that looks along the lines of a Heroes of Might and Magic and Songs of Conquest style game.
Make the journey from the humble beginnings of your old master’s small wizard tower, choose from various schools of magic and explore the lands of Eo in your quest for magical might in this procedurally populated strategy role-playing game. Face off against competing factions and send your armies and heroes across the land to unearth secrets and mighty artifacts as you build up your knowledge and magic to become the most powerful mage of all time.
