We’re Getting a New Ghostbusters Game!

Oh my God! Oh my God! Illfonic, the developers of Predator: Hunting Grounds have dropped a trailer for the latest installment in the Ghostbusters franchise, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. The trailer starts off with the familiar voice of Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore talking about previous events and seemingly interviewing some up and coming new Ghostbusters. With the familiar theme of Ray Parker Jr’s “Ghostbusters” playing in the background, my pop culture brain just popped.

Using all the traditonal tools of the Ghostbusters like traps and particle throwers, players will team up with other Ghostbusters to catch ghosts before they can haunt an area. Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed also gives players the opportunity to play as a ghost and take on the rookie Ghostbusters by scaring and sliming them. Playing as a ghost looks like a lot of fun, especially hiding and sneaking, waiting for the right moment to scare unsuspecting civilians and Ghostbusters. From the trailer, some iconic locations and set pieces have returned like Ecto-1 and the Firehouse. The action takes place in museums, prisons and hotels in the real world and the spirit world entered through Tobin’s Spirit Guide at Rays Occult Books.

As well as Ernie Hudson returning, it seems Dan Aykroyd is reprising his role as Ray Stantz, former Ghostbuster and owner of Ray’s Occult Books. I thought for a second I heard Harold Ramis’ laugh also which is so cool! It will be interesting to see if anyone else from the original movie will make a cameo. There’s an NPC that looks eerily like Bill Murray’s character, Dr Peter Venkman, walking past the book store.

I am looking forward to another trailer for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed hopefully with an eventual release date and platform information. We’ll keep you updated on this title as more information is released.
