Funko Fusion Review – Exciting Pop Culture Fun

Funko Fusion is an action-adventure game developed by 10:10 Games that brings together beloved pop culture icons in a fun and nostalgic way. The game features Funko Pop’s iconic characters battling against the evil Eddy, who has plunged Wonderworld into chaos. You must travel to various pop culture themed worlds, including Battlestar Galactica and Jurassic World, to restore peace and order. I get a similar feeling as playing the LEGO games, only this time we are in the Funko universe.

The story of Funko Fusion is centred around the evil Eddy, a mischievous character who has thrown Wonderworld into turmoil by corrupting various worlds. As a player, you take on the role of different Funko characters who band together to fight against Eddy’s minions and restore harmony. The game starts off allowing you to choose from seven different themed worlds to start from, such as Back to the Future, JAWS, Umbrella Academy, and Chucky. As you progress and earn crowns within the levels you can unlock doors to other franchises.

Each level is inspired by different pop culture franchises, offering unique story arcs and missions. For example, in the Jurassic World level, you’ll join forces with characters like Owen Grady to fend off rampaging dinosaurs and uncover Eddy’s nefarious plans. Similarly, in the Battlestar Galactica level, you’ll embark on a mission to save the fleet from Eddy’s control while reliving iconic moments from the series.

The gameplay in Funko Fusion is a mix of puzzle-solving and combat. You control different characters from popular franchises, each with unique abilities and weapons. In each world there are a variety of missions, including hunting down enemies and finding a plethora of collectibles. While the combat mechanics are straightforward, with a focus on shooting and melee attacks, the puzzles can sometimes be repetitive. However, there is always something I missed or needed another character to open a special door, so there were plenty of reasons to replay levels.

I particularly enjoyed the Battlestar Galactica and Jurassic World levels which are a tonne of fun. The environments are beautifully designed, capturing the essence of these beloved franchises. The Jurassic World level offers an exciting experience with its dinosaur-themed challenges, that iconic music and dinosaurs roaming or flying around the park. The Battlestar Galactica level utilises the original TV series lore and characters, not to be confused with the reboot series, and it brings the iconic sci-fi world to life, with engaging missions and nostalgic references.

One of the highlights of Funko Fusion is its visual style. The game stays true to the Funko Pop aesthetic, with colourful and detailed character designs. The nostalgic appeal of seeing favourite characters from various franchises is a major drawcard. The game’s music and themed hubs add to the immersive experience, making it feel like a love letter to pop culture. A heap of new DLC such as The Walking Dead and The Office characters have been added, as has the ability to play the game in co-op which is fantastic.

Overall, Funko Fusion is a fun and easy-to-play experience for fans of Funko Pop and the featured pop culture franchises. The gameplay can be simple and repetitive at times with basic combat, but the nostalgic value, iconic music and visuals make it worth playing. If you enjoy action-adventure games similar to the LEGO games, Funko Fusion is an easy game to recommend.
