Imagine Earth – Galaxies DLC Review: Adds Many More Facets

Imagine Earth, the eco-conscious city-building simulation, expands its horizons with the Galaxies DLC which launched on April 8, 2025. Imagine Earth – Galaxies takes players beyond individual planets and into the vastness of space, introducing new mechanics, challenges, and strategies. Players must now manage resources, research, and production on a galactic scale, considering the unique challenges and opportunities each planet presents. You can read my review of the base game here to get a picture of the general gameplay loop that I found, “The excellent graphical representation of the planet and resources immediately caught my eye, and the tutorial planet and story missions progressed the complexities of the game without overwhelming me.” The same can be said with this DLC but it introduces some excellent mechanics.

The most significant change to the base game is the ability to colonize entire galaxies, comprising up to 20 planets. This scale shift significantly increases the game’s complexity and replayability, offering a fresh perspective for returning players. A central space station acts as your command centre, facilitating interplanetary research, resource management, and trade. This new element requires players to balance development across multiple worlds while efficiently utilizing the space station’s capabilities.

The addition of orbital lifts and city centre extensions further enriches the strategic possibilities, allowing for diverse colony specialization and efficient resource management.Orbital lifts are structures that enable seamless and cost-free transportation of resources and goods between planets and the space station. While the city centre extensions allows you to customize your cities so they can provide special bonuses and abilities.

The Galaxies DLC adds a new campaign to Imagine Earth that is centred around the Genesis Seed Initiative, introducing players to the new mechanics. Additionally, a galaxy-wide competition mode pits players against AI corporations, adding a competitive edge to the experience.

Imagine Earth’s visuals remain impressive in the Galaxies DLC. The expanded scale of the game, with multiple planets and space stations, is visually engaging. The game’s performance is generally smooth, although the increased complexity may require more powerful hardware, especially in late-game scenarios with numerous colonies.

Overall, the Imagine Earth – Galaxies DLC is a worthy expansion that adds substantial content and depth to an already excellent game. The ability to colonize entire galaxies, manage a central space station, and utilize new mechanics like orbital lifts and city extensions elevates the strategic gameplay and provides a fresh challenge for players. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Imagine Earth or new to the series, this DLC offers a rich and rewarding experience that expands the boundaries of planetary colonization and eco-conscious city-building.
