Late last week, Wizards of the Coast held their first digital show in the form of D&D Direct 2022 where they announced some exclusive reveals across the world’s greatest roleplaying game, books, video games, entertainment, and more. While this article will focus on Baldur’s Gate 3 and Neverwinter news, the 30-minute show gave avid fans and players information on a brand new campaign setting, Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, a fresh starter set for those eager to jump into D&D for the first time called Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, more details about the upcoming D&D film, including its official title, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and a heap of other awesome information. You can catch up on the full show below.
For gamers like myself, Larian Studios gave us an overview of how Baldur’s Gate 3 has been shaped in the last 18 months of early access. They showed a brief video showing the results of their seven major patches to date including classes added such as the Barbarian and Druid, locations like Ebonlake and Grymforge, and a heap of visual updates to the game. I bought the game when it first released in early access in October 2020 and enjoyed the few hours I had played at the time. I am definitely keeping an eye on the hotfixes and major updates as the game works towards releasing in 2023. You can watch the D&D Direct 2022 Baldur’s Gate 3 video here or head to baldursgate3.game for more information.
The other piece of news out of D&D Direct 2022 that piqued my interest was an update from Cryptic Studios about their MMORPG, Neverwinter. Neverwinter is a free-to-play Dungeons & Dragons MMORPG that features fast-paced combat and epic dungeons that I’ve been playing on and off since it’s release. I jumped back into the game in January this year when Module 22: Dragonbone Vale was released. Coming in June this year is Neverwinter’s next major module, Dragonslayer. In this Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons-inspired update, players will become a dragonslayer as they enter epic lairs and hunt down chromatic dragons from the D&D universe. You can watch the reveal video for Neverwinter: Dragonslayer here or head to the Neverwinter official website.
The final bundle of &D goodness that I’m super keen for is the new movie announced titled, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the film stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Chloe Coleman, Daisy Head and Hugh Grant. The movie is set to be released in theaters on March 3, 2023 and although we were only given a short tease of the title and some music, I’m definitely getting excited and will be watching for more information as it releases.
