A quick glance at my Twitter feed saw me get excited for the launch of Diablo Immortal on June 2 (June 3 for us in ANZ). Diablo Immortal was announced with mobile gamers at the forefront, and so while I enjoy mobile gaming from time to time, I put more of my focus onto Diablo 4 which is still a long way off yet. However I completely overlooked the fact that June 2 will also be the launch of the PC beta for Diablo Immortal, so it is coming to PC after all!
Not only is it going to be on PC and mobiles, it also features cross-play and cross-progression, so that’s even better! My lunch breaks at work will get a whole lot more interesting as I will be able to jump in for 10-20 minutes on my mobile at work, the continue playing from where I left off that night on PC once my daughters have gone to bed. Magic!
From Blizzard’s blog of the announcement:
“The decision to develop Diablo Immortal for PC was one that the team went back and forth on for a large part of the development process. On one hand, we felt that we wouldn’t be doing the title justice by releasing a game originally designed for mobile on PC; on the other hand, we wanted to make sure the game reached as many players as possible—especially our most dedicated PC fans.”
Control-wise, Blizzard said that along with the standard “left-click to move” controls, they have also added WASD movement, the ability to rebind keys, as well as controller support. Diablo Immortal was built as a mobile game first, so the PC user interface is going to have a similar feel, however they have shrunk the portrait, mini map, top-level menu buttons, and ability icons to a comfortable size. They did make one final comment on the interface though:
“While there will not be many behaviors custom tailored for desktop, and some menu interactions may resemble their mobile counterparts, we made sure to include hotkeys for all major functions, eliminating the need to manually click each function.”
It’s all pretty exciting stuff, especially those of us on PC who are craving a new Diablo game, and come June 2 we will be able to jump in! Head on over to the official site and be sure to follow their socials to keep up to date with all things Diablo Immortal.
