Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail Expansion Launching in July

After watching the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2024 earlier this year, I took my first steps into Final Fantasy XIV. I am still in the base game’s content that was originally re-released in 2013, but mates in my gaming circle are getting excited for the upcoming release of the game’s fifth expansion, Dawntrail. Set for release on July 2, with early access starting on June 28, Dawntrail will introduce an increased level cap (90 to 100), multiple new jobs, sprawling new areas, new allied tribes, new dungeons, and new core battle content such as FATEs, Hunts, Treasure Hunts, side quests, and much more.

New Jobs

Viper: A close-range fighter using two one-handed blades that can be combined into a single two-handed weapon. The Viper pressures enemies with swift strikes from their twin blades, then deals mighty blows with their joined weapon. By calling on the memories of ancient hunters contained within their soul crystal, the Viper can imbue their body with additional power for a brief time.

Pictomancer: A magical ranged DPS job that works in the medium of mixed aether. The Pictomancer wields a specialised brush to render their imaginings reality. These creations include not only creatures and weapons but landscapes as well. As evoking such wonders takes time, the Pictomancer also keeps instant-cast abilities and spells at the ready.

Beastmaster: A new limited job coming in future Dawntrail patches, more information will be released at a later date. Limited jobs are only available in select content.

New playable race

Female Hrothgar: The Hrothgar people hail from Ilsabard. A Turali people with shared ancestry, the Xbr’aal, call Yak T’el home. Females number relatively few among the population but are readily identified by their lithe, muscular forms. Equally distinctive is their predisposition for leadership.

New cities

Set on the continent of Tural, players will explore new areas and cities such as:
Tuliyollal, the seat of the federal nation-state governing Tural, located in the Northern Reaches of Yok Tural.
Solution Nine, a city of towering facades constructed by an entirely different civilisation than that of Tuliyollal.

New areas

• The tropical region of Kozama’uka, replete with myriad rivers, streams and waterfalls.
• The arid region of Shaaloani, spanning vast rain-starved plains across which a railroad is being constructed.
• The mountainous region, Urqopacha.
• The dense forest of Yak T’el.
• Heritage Found: in this region overflowing with lightning energies, thick thunderclouds blot out the sun, while streaks of purple levin illuminate the land day and night.

• New Alliance Raid: Echoes of Vana’diel, a crossover series with Final Fantasy XI.

Lifestyle content and other updates:

• Expansive New Lifestyle Content: Cosmic Exploration.
• New Allied Tribes, including the diminutive Pelupelu who wear distinctive masks and inhabit Urqopacha, and the Moblins, a people residing in the jungles of Kozama’uka who bear a strong resemblance to the goblins with whom they share common ancestry.
• New field operations akin to “The Forbidden Land, Eureka” and “Save the Queen” will arrive in Dawntrail.
• Ongoing Content Updates, including a Blue Mage update, Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures, new plans for Deep Dungeons and a Gold Saucer Update.

Square Enix offers an even further expanded Free Trial now which includes all content from A Realm Reborn, the Heavensward expansion and the Stormblood expansion, including an additional playable race (Au Ra) and five additional playable jobs (Dark Knight, Astrologian, Machinist, Red Mage and Samurai).
