Player 2 Charity Marathon Kicks Off Jan 28

It’s always wonderful to hear about gamers doing good things for charity and local communities and it’s even better when they’re done by Australian gamers. The 2023 Player 2 Charity Marathon, supporting the Terry Campese Foundation, is kicking off on January 28, 2023, for its sixth year. Once again, the marathon which can be viewed at the Player 2 Twitch channel, will be supporting the Terry Campese Foundation, a charity started by ex-Australian, NSW and Canberra Raider player Terry Campese to help those in his home region that are doing it tough.

Player 2 Editor Matt Hewson has been a strong supporter of this cause for many years, with the previous marathons having raised over $22000 in total for the foundation. Matt’s passion for this charity has been recognised by Terry and his foundation with Matt becoming an official member of the Foundation’s board in 2019. This year the fundraising focus is on supporting the foundation’s “breaking-the-cycle” program.

This program sees teens from troubled backgrounds come together for six months of training, life skills coaching and team building under the watchful eye of volunteer mentors, culminating in a trip to Papua New Guinea to complete the Kokoda track. The success of this program is undeniable with 90% of past participants going on to gainful employment or further study. It is the exact thing that some disadvantaged youths need to show them that a bright future is possible.

Having walked Kokoda twice myself, I can attest to the tough but rewarding and life changing experience it is. While the benefits of such an experience are ageless, the youth that complete the challenge come out the other side with life experience and lessons learned that enables them to be a positive influence to those around them and in their communities.

Anyone who donates $5 or more (one entry per $5) during the Player 2 Charity Marathon will go in the draw to win prizes donated by Xbox, PlayStation, Steel Series, Five Star Games, EA Games, Namco Bandai, 2K Australia, Plaion, Ubisoft and more. Donations can be made at https://www.mycause.com.au/events/player2gamingmarathon. Thousands of dollars of prizes are up for grabs including hourly giveaways with the full list of which will be available on Player2.net.au in the lead up to the event.

Player 2 invites everyone to join in and have fun on Twitch on January 28 from 9am AEDT while raising money for a good cause. For more information, head over to Player2.net.au and follow on Twitter.
