The second chapter of the ambitious Worldsoul Saga is nearly upon us with the upcoming launch of World of Warcraft: Midnight on March 3, 2026, for us in ANZ. During a recent media presentation, Associate Game Director at Blizzard Paul Kubit pulled back the curtain on Midnight, detailing a high-stakes return to the elven heartlands of Quel’Thalas.
Following my final review of World of Warcraft: The War Within, where I praised the “fantasy feel” that Blizzard finally recaptured, the stakes for the next chapter have never been higher. As the opening act of the Worldsoul Saga, The War Within successfully hooked me with its deep-cavern vistas and the introduction of the Earthen race, a major win for a dwarf-lover like myself. Now, we look toward the horizon as the shadow of Xal’atath moves from the depths of Khaz Algar to the ancestral elven lands of the north.
With Xal’atath’s shadow looming over the Sunwell, here are the most anticipated features coming to Azeroth this year.
1. The Siege of the Sunwell & Revamped Quel’Thalas
World of Warcraft: Midnight isn’t just a trip down memory lane; it’s a total reimagining of some classic zones. The expansion focuses on Xal’atath’s (the Harbinger) direct assault on the Sunwell using the Dark Heart, an artifact siphoning the essence of the Void Lord Dimensius.
- Seamless Exploration: Eversong Woods and the Ghostlands have been merged and rebuilt from the ground up to support Skyriding without loading screens.
- A New Hub: Silvermoon City has finally been restored to its former glory, serving as the expansion’s main player hub for both factions.
- Zul’Aman Reborn: The Amani Empire is no longer just a raid; it’s a full, vibrant zone led by the twin leaders Zul’jarra and Zul’jah.
You’ll first begin your journey in Eversong Woods, but it’s up to you how your story progresses beyond this first zone. There are three available paths you can tackle in any order: brave the ancient troll kingdom of Zul’Aman, investigate the gnarled hidden roots of Harandar, or accompany Arator on his journey to better understand his relationships with both his family and the Light.

2. New Specialisation: The Devourer Demon Hunter
Demon Hunters are receiving a third specialisation which harnesses the Void with unique ranged abilities ripped from your enemies. Void Elves can also heed the call of the Demon Hunter taking up the mantle to push back against the hungering forces of the Void. The Devourer spec marks a massive lore shift, as these hunters trade Fel fire for Void energy.
- Mid-Range Combat: Devourers operate at a 20-25 yard range, making them a unique hybrid of melee mobility and “pressure caster” gameplay.
- Void Metamorphosis: Instead of a long cooldown, this is a resource-driven state powered by harvesting Soul Fragments.
- Race Expansion: Alongside the new spec, Void Elves are now officially eligible to become Demon Hunters.

3. Long-Awaited Player Housing
After two decades of requests, Player Housing is officially here. Unlike the Garrisons of old, this system is built for permanence and personal expression.
- Neighborhoods: Every player gets a home in a neighborhood with 55 plots, encouraging social interaction with guildmates and neighbors.
- Total Customization: Players can scale, tilt, and even turn off gravity for decor items.
- Housing Early Access: Those who pre-purchase the expansion gain early access to begin building their homes ahead of the full launch.
- Players who have purchased any edition of the World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion can secure Housing Early Access which started back in December 2025.

4. The Prey System: Opt-in World Difficulty
For players who find the open world a bit too safe, Blizzard has introduced the Prey System. Run by Astalor Bloodsworn in Silvermoon, this system allows you to sign up for “Hunting Contracts.” Once active, powerful Void-aligned assassins will stalk you across the world. Higher difficulties like Nightmare introduce “Torments” but offer Hero-track gear rewards. To unlock the two extra difficulties of Prey, players will be required to hit Level 90 with their character. Once achieved, players will be able to select Hard and Nightmare difficulty Hunts from the Hunt Table in Astalor’s Sanctum.
Hard and Nightmare Difficulties introduce extra affixes and require more objectives to be completed to draw out your target’s location. While this does make your Hunts harder to complete, the trade-off is better rewards upon completing them.

5. New Allied Race: The Haranir
Deep beneath the world trees lies Harandar, a fungal jungle and the ancestral home of the Haranir. These reclusive guardians of the rootways are joining the fight against the Void and this new race is unlocked during the main story campaign in Harandar. The Haranir are a neutral race so both Alliance and Horde players can roll one and play as a Druid, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, or Warrior. Haranir characters can travel instantly between Harandar and any World Tree in Azeroth using their Rootwalking ability.

6. Dungeons, Raids, and Delves
Midnight is launching with a massive amount of endgame content, including a return to the “Single Boss Raid” format that many long-time players will find nostalgic.
- Outdoor Delves: 11 new Delves will be introduced, including outdoor environments where you can finally put your ground mount collection to use.
- Follower Mode for All: All 8 new dungeons, including Magister’s Terrace and Murder Row, will support Follower Mode, allowing you to play solo or with bots to appreciate the story at your own pace.
- The Launch Raids: Blizzard is breaking tradition by launching with three distinct raids: the Void Spire (6 bosses), the March on Quel’Danas (2 bosses), and a single-boss encounter in the Dream Rift.
7. A Smoother Journey: The Catch-Up Experience
Blizzard is overhauling the onboarding process to ensure no one feels left behind. If you’ve been away from the game and feel overwhelmed by bag clutter or talent changes, the Returning Player Experience is for you.
- The Arathi Adventure: Returning players can opt into a special questline in Arathi Highlands alongside Thrall and Jaina. It hides your UI and bag clutter, letting you focus on relearning your class mechanics while earning a full set of catch-up gear.
- New Player Path: New accounts will now transition from Exile’s Reach directly into the Dragonflight campaign, which has been updated with a Story Mode for raids, ensuring new players see the full narrative before entering The War Within and Midnight.

Final Thoughts ahead of World of Warcraft: Midnight
As I noted in my coverage of The War Within, I feel Blizzard has found its content footing by blending meaningful solo content, like Delves and Follower Dungeons, with a narrative that actually makes you want to see the ending. World of Warcraft: Midnight seems to be doubling down on that philosophy. By introducing Player Housing and a third Demon Hunter spec, they are checking off “wishlist” items that have sat untouched for over a decade.
Whether you’re a returning veteran lured back by the nostalgia of a rebuilt Silvermoon, or a solo player looking to master the new Prey system through the Returning Player Experience, the middle chapter of the Worldsoul Saga is shaping up to be an essential experience. I’ll be keeping my dwarven hunter’s mining pick ready—though I suspect the “fungal jungle” of Harandar might have some new materials that even a seasoned jeweler hasn’t seen yet.
