The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 held in the early hours of this morning, June 9, 2025, featured a variety of announcements, from highly anticipated sequels to a brand new handheld console. Here’s a summary of the key reveals as I smash the wishlist buttons on Steam and the Xbox Series X.
Xbox Games Showcase 2025 Major Game Announcements:
- The Outer Worlds 2: Obsidian opened the showcase with a new trailer for the sequel to their successful ARPG. It promises expanded gameplay and mechanics, launching on October 29, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 7: The next installment in the Call of Duty series was unveiled with a teaser trailer. Set in 2035, it serves as a direct sequel to Black Ops 2 and 6, featuring returning characters. It’s expected to launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, and PS5, and will be on Game Pass day one.
- Beast of Reincarnation: Game Freak, known for Pokémon, revealed a new combat-driven ARPG set in a post-apocalyptic Japan. It follows protagonist Emma and her companion Koo, coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, and Game Pass day one in 2026.
- Grounded 2: Obsidian also surprised with a sequel to their popular survival game. Grounded 2 steps out of the backyard into new suburban wilderness, introducing new bugs, biomes, and quality-of-life upgrades. It’s heading to Game Preview (Early Access) on July 29, 2025.
- Ninja Gaiden 4: A new gameplay trailer for Ninja Gaiden 4 showcased the return of Ryu Hayabusa and the series’ signature intense, close-quarters combat. It’s slated for an October 21, 2025 release.
- Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy: The next entry in the A Plague Tale series, set in ancient Rome, was properly revealed with a trailer showing a gladiator arena and a woman fleeing monsters.
- Clockwork Revolution: InXile Entertainment’s ambitious steampunk RPG got an extended gameplay look, revealing the grittier side of its city, Avalon, and showcasing its time-bending mechanics.
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4: A launch trailer for the remasters of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and 4 was shown, confirming a July 11, 2025 release date. It will include remade maps and even Doom Guy as a playable character.
- Invincible VS: A brutal 3v3 tag fighter based on the Invincible comic series was revealed, coming in 2026 to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Cloud.
- Persona 4 Revival: Atlus officially teased a new version of their classic RPG, Persona 4 Revival, coming to PC and consoles.
- High on Life 2: A sequel to the quirky shooter was announced, continuing its unique humor and gameplay.
- Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf: A follow-up to the indie hit was confirmed.
- Keeper: Double Fine revealed a new, otherworldly game.
- At Fate’s End: A new game from the creators of Spiritfarer, combining narrative choice with dynamic deck-builder combat.
- Aphelion: A narrative-driven sci-fi adventure from DON’T NOD, set in 2060 on a frozen planet, coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, and Game Pass in 2026.
- No Ghosts at the Grand: A paranormal village decoration/refurbishing and cleaning game with a mystery and a talking cat sidekick, coming in 2026.
- Super Meat Boy 3D: A new 3D installment in the challenging platformer series.
- Cronos: The New Dawn: A sci-fi survival horror game set to launch in Fall 2025.
- Aniimo: A free-to-play open-world creature collecting RPG, where players can collect, evolve, and “twine” with magical creatures. It’s expected in 2026.
DLCs & Updates:
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order of the Giants DLC: Story DLC for the brilliant Indiana Jones game, set to release on September 4, 2025.
- Age of Mythology: Retold – Heavenly Spear Expansion: This expansion for the RTS game will introduce a new Japanese pantheon and a twelve-mission campaign, coming in the US Fall 2025.
- The Elder Scrolls Online: Seasons of the Worm Cult DLC: The new story content and Update 46 are live now on PC for the MMORPG, and arrives on consoles on June 18, 2025, with a server-wide event later in October.
- Fallout 76: Gone Fission Update: This update for Fallout 76 introduces fishing and home-building elements, available now.
- Sea of Thieves: Smugglers’ Tide: A new season for the pirate adventure game, launching in August, introduces the Smuggler’s League and new voyages.
Hardware & Other Announcements:
- ROG Xbox Ally/Ally X Handhelds: During the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, we were introduced to the first official handhelds from Xbox, developed in partnership with ASUS. Two models, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, were revealed, offering Windows 11 Home, AMD Ryzen AI processors, and varying memory/storage. They will support Xbox Remote Play, Cloud Gaming, Play Anywhere, and Game Pass, and are set to release later this year.
- Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on Xbox: It was announced that Final Fantasy XVI is now available on Xbox, and Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will arrive later this winter.
The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 was highly enjoyable and a huge success in my mind. The pacing was excellent, the games announced were awesome, and to see the first handheld Xbox console for the first time, it made the 1am wake up all worthwhile.
