Chris InglisThe latest iteration in the LEGO Star Wars games is nearly upon us and thanks to Koch Media ANZ and Warner Bros., we can show you a short preview of gameplay. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is going to be a huge game encompassing all nine episodes in the movie saga, allowing us to play out some of our favourite scenes from the movies in amazing detail never seen before in a LEGO game. Developed by TT Games and published by Warner Bros, the game is set for release on April 5, 2022 on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The classic LEGO game humour is present, as are the quirky and weird encounters we’ve come to expect as the familiar stories are told, and will cover everything we’ve seen in LEGO games before from The Phantom Menace through to The Force Awakens. However new to the LEGO Star Wars games will be content from The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker which I am super excited to play through. Ahead of release, Koch Media ANZ sent through a preview video of gameplay from Episode IV: A New Hope where we see Leia encoding a message for Obi-Wan within R2-D2, and then following R2 and C-3PO on Tatooine as they come across Luke, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and ultimately the Empire.
There were a number of gameplay elements I hadn’t seen in a LEGO Star Wars game before, like giving players a choice from different paths to get around an obstacle. This will give players a sense of choose-your-own-adventure and your playthrough may differ from your friends. There were also some great optional side quests to complete which involved alternate gameplay methods, such as a jumping puzzle to get to the top of a tower on Tatooine. There are also new collectibles called Kyber Bricks which, along with collecting enough studs, can be used to purchase upgrades and specialise your characters.
I’m looking forward to jumping into the game ahead of release, and you’ll see some first impressions early this week on the website.
