PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance Xbox Review

PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance is a side-scrolling action game developed by Petoons Studio and published by Outright Games. The game released on March 15, 2024, on PC and consoles, and I am glad that Petoons has evolved the formula enough from their first game, PJ Masks: Heroes of the Night, and this settled some of the gripes my daughter and I had with it. Vehicle levels are separate now and the side-scrolling levels offer good variety for younger audiences, espcially with more characters available to play.

Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko are back and are teaming up with An Yu, Newton Star, Ice Cub, Lilyfay, and Bastet to form a Mighty Alliance. After a big accident at PJ Power Q scatters valuable pieces of technology and gems across Earth, these extraordinary heroes must rebuild it. Hop into the Explorider and begin the night-time adventure scouring the deserted streets in The City. You will discover more while exploring the bamboo forests, secret caves, and the sacred temple in Mystery Mountain. Then slide through the Ice World to reach the snowy caves searching for the lost parts.

Collecting gems is the aim of each level and these are spread everywhere, with secret areas to find as well. You can also bash through flashing crates which contains more gems to collect. My daughter enjoyed taking each level at her own pace, and while she struggled often with jujmping sections, the great music and ease of play meant she could take her time and overcome obstacles and challenges as her skills increased. She still struggled with vehicle levels, so Dad took over for those.

The PJ Masks: Power Heroes tv series was launched in 2023 and continued to follow the adventures of Catboy, Owlette and Gekko, while introducing new diverse hero characters, Newton Star, An Yu, Ice Cub, Bastet, Lilyfay and Armadylan. It was great to have some extra variety with these additional characters to play. In addition to collecting gems, you try to collect the character masks and special boss collectible items. Players must work together with the crew before Luna Girl, Night Ninja and Romeo can use the technology for their own evil schemes.

There are four main locations to explore, each with their own list of missions to complete in any order. Scale vertical walls as Gekko, glide with An Yu’s Dragon Staff and stun enemies with Bastet’s Sun Disk. As you progress through each area, you will need to solve puzzles and avoid obstacles like Robots, Ninjalinos and electric Moon Balls that can stun you, before going up against a boss battle in each location. My daughter and I had a great time playing a level or two each night and slowly making our way and it was a lot of fun to play together taking turns.

Much like the first game, PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance is a charming and engaging title for young children, especially those who love the PJ Masks TV show. With its simple controls, colourful world to explore and fun exploration mechanics, it provides a safe and enjoyable gaming experience. Older kids may lose interest quickly, it will just depend on how much they enjoy the TV series content.

This review utilised an Xbox key provided by Five Star Games and PJ Masks Power Heroes: Mighty Alliance is available now on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Steam.
