Witchspire is a survival crafting adventure developed by Envar Games and launched into Early Access on June 10, 2026. While currently on Steam, its lightweight, accessible approach makes it a standout entry in this year’s survival-crafting lineup. Survival games usually come packed with punishing hunger meters, grim landscapes, and gruelling resource grinds. Witchspire flips that script entirely, replacing grim survivalism with vibrant magical exploration, cozy base building, and adorable familiar taming.
The story places you in the robes of novice magic users embarking on a journey across an ancient, enchanted realm that has fallen under a spreading corruptive force. Your objective is to explore forgotten ruins, uncover the lost secrets of the Ancients, and cleanse the land’s corrupted flora and fauna to restore balance to the wilderness. It provides a light, engaging story that gives purpose to your exploration without bogging down the pace with heavy, overwhelming dialogue.

Playing through this world in two-person co-op alongside my 9-year-old daughter highlights exactly where the game shines. Without the stress of a constant starvation clock, the focus stays squarely on shared adventure, creative building, and exploring an expansive world together. You can take exploration entirely at your own pace. Gathering materials never feels like a chore when you are using magical wands to slice trees with wind blades or sending out automated pickaxes. This lets younger players experiment freely with spells and movement without the fear of harsh survival penalties.
Catching, taming, and leveling up magical companions gives younger players a clear, rewarding goal to chase during every play session. Assigning these familiars to work around your base, such as putting a little rock creature on the workbench to speed up crafting, adds a wonderful layer of charm and automation to base management. The building tools feature a gridless placement system alongside an astral projection feature that lets you float freely while placing walls, roofs, and decorations. Designing a sprawling witch’s sanctuary together allows for seamless collaborative design without fighting the camera or physics.

Co-op integration is smooth, allowing both players to build, craft, and tackle quests simultaneously across the map without feeling tethered to one another. Whether one player wants to stay back and decorate the sanctuary while the other ventures out to forage, the game accommodates different playstyles effortlessly. One thing to note though is that chests and world pickups are currently shared on the server character, meaning if one player loots a chest, it empties for the other. It requires a bit of communication and active resource sharing back at base, so nobody feels left out on upgraded gear or rare crafting materials.
Despite being in early access, Witchspire offers enough mechanical depth to stay engaging for adult players while remaining approachable, colourful, and wildly fun for kids. If you’re looking for a cozy, creature-collecting adventure to share on game night, this one is an absolute magic spell of a time.
