Skull and Bones Delayed to March 2023

[Editor’s note 18/01/23: Ubisoft has further announced that the game has been delayed again, likely into 2024 but a release window hasn’t been provided.]

Ubisoft has recently announced that Skull and Bones will now release on March 9, 2023, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC through the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store. Players can also subscribe to Ubisoft+ on PC to access the game on day one. Delays are disappointing to hear but I would rather time spent making the first release impressions as great as they can be to avoid rushed mistakes of the past.

Despite this delayed release date, an open beta will be held ahead of the game’s launch to ensure players get a firsthand look at the dangerous world of Skull and Bones. Players will have the opportunity to discover the game’s unique take on the piracy fantasy, its gritty naval combat as well as the immersive and beautiful seas of the 17th century Indian Ocean. More details are to be revealed for when the beta will become available.

Developed by Ubisoft Singapore in collaboration with other Ubisoft studios, Skull and Bones will see players chart their own destiny and rise from an outcast to becoming a pirate kingpin. To do so, they will need to build their Infamy through thrilling naval combat and rewarding expeditions in a treacherous world. Players will get to experience the authentic pirate life, from accepting contracts, gathering resources, to navigating important trade routes and attacking wealthy merchant ships. Each decision will influence their journey, with varying levels of risk and reward.

As they grow their Infamy, players will be able to fully craft and customize their naval fleet and unlock a variety of new items throughout the game. Players can expand their empire by joining forces with up to two other friends or players they encounter out at sea. For additional challenge, they can enable PvP and test their iron against aspiring kingpins, powerful organizations, local factions, or even rival pirates. Building on an ambitious, multi-year post-launch plan, the game will be regularly updated with new content, activities, stories and challenges that will be free for all players.

Skull and Bones will now release on March 9, 2023, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC through the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store. Players can also subscribe to Ubisoft+ on PC to access the game on day one. To read more about the game and to keep up with news of the game as it drops, head over to the official website.
