Myrkur Games’ 2025 debut, Echoes of the End, launched in August 2025 as a visually stunning yet, at times, frustrating action-adventure experience. The game’s world drew heavy inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of Iceland, offering a rich and immersive setting. At the heart of the story was Ryn, a powerful vestige born with an affinity for what remains of an ancient magic.
However, the initial release was held back by a series of technical shortcomings. The Steam forums were littered with comments of frequent stuttering, poor traversal of the main character, and the game’s combat system suffered from inconsistent responsiveness. In response to community feedback and their own ambitions, the developers returned to the drawing board. At the end of October, Myrkur Games introduced the Enhanced Edition, a game-changing update with reworked animations, a revamped combat system, and a brand-new equipment system to truly personalize your playstyle. With faster pacing, an exciting new difficulty level, and New Game+, this update makes the game more immersive and action-packed.

The story of Echoes of the End begins in a fantasy land shaped by the dramatic, raw beauty of Iceland. Players take on the role of Ryn, a powerful ‘Vestige’ ranger whose very identity is tied to the volatile, ancient magic she wields. Her journey is violently set in motion when her brother, Cor, is abducted by the Dalsman, an aggressive faction seeking to harness or control the world’s ancient power sources. Ryn must embrace her magic abilities to find her brother and prevent a dark conspiracy, and is quickly joined by Abram Finlay, a haunted scholar companion who provides both insight into the world’s secrets and magic utility on the battlefield.
The core combat loop revolves around a fast and brutal blend of precise swordplay and Vestige magic. With multiple foes to face at once, you rely on quick dodges to avoid heavy blows and executing perfect parries to stun enemies and open them up for counterattacks, a new addition to this enhanced edition. This allows Ryn to use gravity manipulation to slam foes into environmental hazards or unleash area-of-effect blasts for crowd control. Ryn also has “life drain” abilities that stun and siphon health from enemies to give her a health replenishment to survive the challenging encounters.

While Ryn is the primary Vestige warrior, her companion, Abram Finlay, is essential to battlefield control and success in combat. Abram is non-controllable other than being able to cast a stun on enemies, trip mechanisms to allow Ryn to pass environmental hazards, and can even help with interrupting enemy combos. A well-time parry by Ryn followed with Abram’s stun leaves the enemy vulnerable enough for a finishing attack which makes combat fast and fluid.
Beyond combat and performance, the developers implemented several quality-of-life changes based on player feedback. These include a speedier tutorial, a streamlined progression system with over 40 upgrades, and new collectible outfits for Ryn. Visually the game was already amazing, utilising Unreal Engine 5 to craft a world inspired by Iceland’s raw, untamed landscapes—towering glaciers, ancient lava fields, and geothermal plains.

For players familiar with AA/AAA third-person action games, Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition occupies a niche similar to games like Immortals of Aveum and Scars Above. Like Immortals, the game heavily features a core protagonist who wields volatile magic alongside traditional combat skills. The environmental detail provides the same kind of visual feast as both of those titles. If you enjoy the blend of visceral combat like in Scars Above, with visually Echoes of the End will feel like a natural fit.
Overall, Echoes of the End: Enhanced Edition successfully fixes technical issues that were present at original release providing a beautiful, brutal, and fast paced action-adventure. Thankfully newcomers to the game will dive straight into a well-designed combat game with a great story and environmental puzzles to solve through the journey.
